Alumnae Relations

  • October 2010

To The Alumnae Sisters of Gamma Phi Beta,

Even though it’s only October, there is so much wonderful Gamma Phi news that I can’t wait to share with all of you!

Gamma Phi Beta held its 74th annual convention this summer in Orlando, Florida. We were able to send six women to represent the Delta Tau chapter, including our chapter advisor Gretchen Oostenink, former 2009 President (and now alumna!) Andi Jones, former 2009 FVP and current 2010 PRVP Marietta Glass, 2010 AVP Molly Kunzman, 2010 VPR of Panhellenic Monica Hernandez, and Julie Wallan (former 2009 MVP and current 2010 President)! Many thanks to Gretchen Oostenink, past and present Financial Vice Presidents, and our House Corporation Board for seeing to it that our chapter could afford to participate in Convention 2010. As a result of all of our hard work, determination, and love for our chapter, Delta Tau was presented with three outstanding awards at the convention awards ceremony. We were awarded the Financial Excellence Award, the Scholastic Excellence Award, and finally the Mary A. Bingham Award. The Mary A. Bingham award is the highest and most honorable collegiate award given to only one chapter out of all 123 collegiate chapters every biennium! For the 2009-2010 academic year, Delta Tau was one of only 19 chapters worldwide (out of 123 total) to attain the Order of the Crescent.  This signified our chapter's excellence in all five areas of chapter life including recruitment, risk management, member education, finance, and scholarship.  For the Mary A. Bingham Award, we demonstrated the HIGHEST level of overall excellence in recruitment, scholarship, new member program, ritual, PACE/Crescent Values, efficiency in reporting, Panhellenic participation, campus, community, and philanthropic activities, collegiate/alumnae relations, campus standing (reputation), and quality of leadership.

Recruitment this fall was an absolute success for the Delta Tau chapter of Gamma Phi Beta, and we absolutely could not have done it without the hard work and dedication of Chapter Advisor Gretchen, Membership Vice President Janice Yu, Panhellenic Vice President of Recruitment Monica Hernandez, and all of the women of the Delta Tau chapter! Over 200 potential new members participated in recruitment, and we are so happy to welcome our 66 lovely new members into our sisterhood!

We have already had a number of noteworthy events this semester, including sisterhood events, philanthropy events, and social events. We were lucky enough to be able to spend time at Madison County Children’s Camp during our annual sisterhood retreat, which was a complete success thanks to our EVP Lauren Rose Graves. Our Philanthropy Chair Liz Grover is to thank for the great turnout at our annual Pumpkin Carving event with Phi Delta Theta, and we are currently in the process of selling pumpkin-grams to benefit Madison County Children’s Camp. We all had a great time at String Fling, which was held at the Rusty Rail. It was such a success because of Loretta Douglas, our Social Chair, and we can’t wait for our crush party at Nichols and Beal next month!

    Spring 2010

To the Alumnae Sisters of Gamma Phi Beta,

It has already been quite a busy semester for the Delta Tau chapter of Gamma Phi Beta! There have been several philanthropy events, sisterhood events, and campus-wide recognitions for our sisters, and we are very proud of how well our chapter is doing so far this year.

We had a successful Crush party in February at the Hourglass and just held Spring Formal at the Rusty Rail, which went without a single problem. We will be hosting another Crush party at Nichol’s and Beal in the next month, and have recently formed a social committee that focuses on individual pledge class bonding to encourage deeper connections for our sisters. Thanks to our wonderful social chairs for doing such a great job!

Delta Tau has also had some incredible ladies honored this semester academically including inductions into the Phi Beta Kappa honor society for Jenna Marks and Mindy Goldenberg and six new Konosioni members (Margaret Brower, Meg Hanley, Zunaira Javed, Kaitlyn Kelly, Hilary Olshonsky, and Laura Bostwick). In addition to these awards, our chapter has begun to recognize individual members with our Gamma Fives Program, which honors five outstanding sisters each month at formal chapter meeting. Gamma Phi Beta was also awarded at the annual Greek Life Awards for Outstanding Advisor, Outstanding Collaborative Project with Phi Delta Theta, Samantha Horn as Sorority Scholar of the Year, and Chapter of the Year. Congratulations, Delta Tau, on an awesome year!

Finally, we held a Valentine’s Day Party for Sidekicks in February and look forward to hosting Crescent Classic on April 11th.  Following the success of last year’s Crescent Classic, this year we are once again putting on a Soccer Tournament that invites the whole campus to participate and involves local businesses in supporting Madison County Children’s Camp. We look forward to once again pledging our support for this great cause.

  • The House Corporation Board

  • The House Corporation is a group of alumnae and collegiate Delta Tau's who are interested in providing and maintaining a comfortable home for the chapter. After a collegiate member has paid the local building fund, she is then a member of the House Corporation of Delta Tau of Gamma Phi Beta.

The Annual meeting of the Corporation is held every spring during Colgate’s Reunion weekend. The entire Delta Tau chapter and alumnae members are invited to this meeting. At that time the corporation is informed about the financial status, building and decorating projects, etc. of the house. Members of the Board of Directors for the Corporation (the House Corporation Board or HCB) are also elected at this meeting.

Five directors are elected and four are ex-officio with voting rights (ex- officio members = Chapter President, Financial Vice President, House Manager, and Chapter Advisor). The HCB meets at least 4 times a year.

The HCB works very hard to make the house a more pleasant place to live for the members of the chapter. Recently, it has completed its project of providing heat for the sun porch. Now the members will have another warm and pleasant area in the house to study and relax.

At the 2008 International Convention of Gamma Phi Beta, our House Corporation Board received the House Corporation Board Efficiency Award, and Honorable Mention for the House Corporation Board/Collegiate Relations Award!
